Australia has the highest literacy (rank 1) and one of the highest economic literacy rates (rank 4) in the world according to the World Competitiveness Yearbook in 2007.
Melbourne is well serviced by excellent private and public schools as well as nine public universities, which provide students with high quality education that encourages creativity and independent thought.
For students wishing to become internationally mobile, the International Baccalaureate is offered by 12 schools within the State.
In 2007, over 133,000 students from 187 countries chose the state of Victoria for their education and their future. Also in 2007, three of Victoria's universities were ranked in the world's top 200 universities by The Times.
