Victoria’s commitment to Advanced Air Mobility on show at Avalon 2023
Invest Victoria partnered with several innovative advanced air mobility and electric aviation companies to showcase the latest AAM and electric aviation technology at the Avalon International Airshow, which was launched by the Minister for Trade and Investment on 1 March 2023.
The showcase was an airshow first, in which tradeshow delegates and the general public alike were provided with a glimpse into the transformational innovations that will support the aviation sector's transition to efficient, zero-emission operations for the first time at the Avalon Airshow.
Invest Victoria's showcase included the latest innovations from Vertiia by AMSL Aero, Dovetail Electric Aviation, Kite Magnetics, Swoop Aero, Fly on E, Airbus, V-STAR Powered Lift Aviation and Skyportz.
The showcase further highlights the Victorian Government's support to unlocking industry development of zero-emission aviation technologies. Zero-emission aircraft and advanced air mobility aircraft will assist Victoria meet its Climate Change Strategy which has committed to achieving net-zero emission by 2050.
These innovative technologies will also unlock an array of new opportunities in freight, emergency services, healthcare, regional service delivery and connect Victoria's regions and communities.
Transport modes, like AAM, are also vital economic enablers. Morgan Stanley projects the global AAM market will be around $AUD2.2 trillion by 2040. Closer to home, Deloitte Access Economics projected that over the next 20 years, AAM could increase Victoria's Gross State Product by $2.8 billion (AUD) and create 1,300 jobs annually.
Victoria is supporting the development of the zero-emission aviation sector
The Advanced Air Mobility Industry Vision Statement outlines the Victorian Government's commitment to support the development of an AAM and zero-emission aviation ecosystem and unlock cost and time savings for companies in a range of industries for both freight and passenger applications.
Victoria is also a signatory along with the Commonwealth Government and the Civil Aviation Safety Authority to a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to collaborate on fostering the development of the AAM sector.
Victoria’s thriving aerospace and manufacturing capability are already making significant contributions to Australian and global aerospace industry.
Victoria’s world-class aerospace capabilities include advanced composite materials and production, component design, battery development, testing and certification, simulation and modelling, software development, platform support and systems engineering.
Victorian Universities are leading novel research and development with to support emerging aviation technologies through to commercialisation, in partnership with aviation companies. Additionally, Victoria continues to back the capability of universities to foster future skills required to support the AAM sector.
The Victorian Government is committed to partnering with companies seeking opportunities to participate and build the AAM sector through research and development, partnerships, local trials, market validation, manufacturing, and operations.
