China’s largest commercial aerospace manufacturer has made a multimillion-dollar investment in Melbourne’s world-class research, business and industrial precinct.
Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China (COMAC) is partnering with Monash University to establish a new research and development centre at the Monash Science Technology Research and Innovation Precinct in Melbourne’s South East.
The partnership will strengthen the existing partnership between COMAC and the Monash Centre for Additive Manufacturing.
The Centre tests and develops new metal alloys and advanced manufacturing components for commercial aircraft, making them safer and more efficient.
The investment will enable COMAC to harness the State’s world class advanced manufacturing capabilities.
Victoria has more than 11,800 manufacturing firms, employing more than 270,000 people across the State. Manufacturing is the number one industry for research and development spending in Victoria.
The State’s thriving advanced manufacturing sector is backed by its world leading tertiary institutions, such as Monash University, a highly skilled workforce, and world-renowned research and development capabilities.
The Monash Science Technology Research and Innovation Precinct is the State’s largest jobs hub outside the CBD and is home to some of the nation’s most prestigious research organisations such as the CSIRO and the Australian Synchrotron.
