Victoria’s renewable energy sector has received a boost with global company Mainstream Renewables Power establishing an office in Melbourne to focus on projects across the country.
Founded in 2008, the Irish-based company is a leading independent developer of utility-scale wind and solar power plants in high growth emerging markets.
It has offices on five continents and employs 160 staff, with a project development portfolio of 8.5GW across Africa, South and Central America, and a focus on a number of markets in Asia including Vietnam and Philippines.
Invest Victoria has been working with Mainstream since early 2018 to support their entry, which included providing information on Victorian renewable energy policy and the battery storage market, and organising meetings for the company CEO with key stakeholders.
Mainstream is the latest renewable energy company to invest in Melbourne, following in the footsteps of Total Eren, Tilt Renewables, Acciona Nordex, BayWa re, X-Elio and Iberdrola.
Victoria’s renewable energy targets will increase the share of electricity generated by renewables to 25 per cent by 2020, 40 per cent by 2025, and 50 per cent by 2030.
These targets are expected to create around 24,000 jobs by 2030 and drive an additional $5.8 billion in economic activity in Victoria.
