A global logistics company is set to invest $147 million to expand its Asia Pacific headquarters in Melbourne, in a move which will strengthen Victoria’s position as a market of choice for businesses in the food and fibre, transport, distribution and logistics industries.
NewCold Australia will more than double the size of its state-of-the-art cold storage facility in Melbourne’s west, boosting storage capacity at the site by almost 95% to 225,000 pallets.
The first phase of the project is currently underway and will see an expansion of NewCold’s multi-temperature and freezer warehouse, including upgrades to a powerhouse of advanced features to store chilled and frozen goods in optimal conditions.
Already boasting one of the world’s largest automated high bay warehouses, the upgraded facility will use the latest energy-efficient storage, cooling and distribution technology to automatically move and store products.
The expanded facility is expected to be operational in 2022 and will provide innovative storage solutions to NewCold’s global food supply chain customers, including Simplot who supply products to Australia’s leading supermarkets.
Headquartered in the Netherlands and employing 1,500 staff across three continents, NewCold is a global leader in cold storage logistics, specialising in temperature-controlled warehousing and distribution.
NewCold’s Melbourne expansion will help to grow the company’s footprint in the Asia Pacific region, building on an already strong reputation in Europe and the United Kingdom.
