North American businesses will soon have even greater access to Victoria and the Australian market, with Delta Air Lines introducing three new direct flights per week from Los Angeles to Melbourne, starting in December.
Boosting business, investment, and trade
Secured with the support of the Victorian Government, this expansion will enhance business mobility, investment and trade opportunities, further reinforcing Victoria’s status as a key international business and investment hub.
Deputy Premier Ben Carroll and Melbourne Airport CEO Lorie Argus announced the new route, which will add 86,000 extra seats annually between Victoria and the United States on one of the world’s biggest airlines. The increase in capacity strengthens Victoria’s global connectivity and is set to grow even further when Delta adds more services in the future.
The additional competition in the market is expected to help drive down international flights costs, making travel to the USA more affordable and facilitating even smoother business between Victoria and North America.
Seamless connectivity across North America
With Los Angeles serving as a major hub for Delta, travellers will have access over 40 destinations across the USA and Latin America from LAX, further improving global business and tourism links.
These flights will also bring thousands more tourists from the USA and Canada. The USA is the state’s fourth largest international market for tourists, attracting more than 200,000 people in the year ending September 2024 – who spent about $358 million while they were in the state.
Strengthening Victoria’s business and trade Ties
Victoria’s business events sector will also benefit from increased connectivity, making it easier for corporate groups to hold conferences in Melbourne. Additionally, the new flights will help facilitate trade, $2.4 billion worth of goods was air freighted between Victoria and North America in the year ending June 2024.
