Supported by the Victorian Investment Fund, the expansion will create 20 highly skilled jobs and expand the company's research and development capability.

It builds on the company’s established presence in Victoria’s health system, where its technology already supports clinicians and health services across the state.

Clinical adoption supports international growth

Nicolab's technology uses AI-powered imaging analysis to help clinicians diagnose and treat stroke faster. Its platform combines AI-powered stroke imaging with clinical collaboration tools, helping  clinicians share information, discuss diagnoses and coordinate acute care across hospital networks.

In stroke, every minute matters. StrokeViewer and Nicolab Assist help stroke teams decide on the best course of treatment in minutes rather than hours, and that can change the outcome for a patient and their family.

A Melbourne base for Asia-Pacific growth

The Victorian Stroke Telemedicine service, which provides 24/7 specialist access for patients at regional hospitals, has used Nicolab’s Strokeviewer technology while assessing more than 12,000 patients with suspected stroke since 2023.

This experience in Victoria provides Nicolab with a strong clinical foundation for further growth across Australia and New Zealand. The company now operates across 15 countries, with deployments including a 36-hospital rollout in Queensland and a nationwide study involving up to 30 hospitals in New Zealand.

Building the next generation of stroke technology in Melbourne

From its expanded Melbourne headquarters, Nicolab plans to develop new AI applications designed to improve the accuracy, speed and efficiency of stroke triage across a wider range of clinical settings.

The company also plans to deepen partnerships with Victorian industry, universities, health services and government to bring specialist-level care to regional and remote patients, wherever they live.

Melbourne gives us the clinical expertise, technology talent and government support to build from here, and we are proud to grow our global headquarters in Victoria as we help more hospitals around the world treat patients faster.

Nicolab’s expansion demonstrates how international health technology companies can combine clinical partnerships, specialist talent and research capability in Melbourne to develop products and scale into global markets.
