Secured by the Victorian Government through the Melbourne Convention Bureau (MCB) in partnership with the Burnet Institute and the Doherty Institute, the summit is expected to attract almost one thousand attendees from all around the world.

The biennial Global Hepatitis Summit brings together experts and practitioners from around the globe to share the latest developments in liver disease, including viral hepatitis, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease and hepatocellular carcinoma.

The event spans four days and features keynotes, clinical workshops, scientific plenaries, networking sessions, and a large exhibition component. It’s also an opportunity for attendees from diverse fields to share knowledge and collaborate on research.

The 2027 summit will showcase Melbourne’s globally recognised research facilities, promoting Australia as a world-renowned location for hepatitis research – underscoring Victoria’s reputation as a hub of medical research excellence. This will also present significant opportunities for investment in the state’s thriving medical research and healthcare sectors.

The Global Hepatitis Summit is an opportunity to bring together hepatitis researchers from across the world, and for the Victorian and Australian medical research community to showcase our research capabilities and to meet and collaborate with like-minded researchers to address this global health issue. said Burnet Institute Director, Professor Brendan Crabb

The summit adds to an impressive line-up of international medical events coming to the city in the next two years, including the World Cancer Leaders’ Summit 2025, the World Congress of Gastroenterology 2025 and the International Diabetes Federation’s Western Pacific Regional Congress 2026.

As Melbourne continues to attract these high-profile medical events, it not only highlights Victoria’s world-class research capabilities but also creates valuable opportunities for collaboration, knowledge exchange, and investment in the state’s thriving medical research and healthcare sectors.
